Sydney, August 2. The fire ia Btill smouldering steadily. Last nigbt the bottom of tbe open quarry Bhowed a subsidence of eeveral feet, and tbe smike has evidently reached the stoped gronnd below. Sieam and water, are being poured in again unoeasiogly, and it baß no* been deoided to use carbonic acid gas, whiob will be introduced into tha old shaft?. As a precaution agaiust poa ible evil tfleoti the Managers of the adjoining mines have been advised tbat it will be used to-day. Later. Oarbonio acid gas is being pumped intc the mine. Melboubne, August 2. The direotors of the Broken Hill fouth Oompany vcted £500 for tbe relief of the sufferers by the late acoident.
