REPRESENTATIVE TEAM.

On Saturday afternoon, fit the Pack, the reps, turned oat splendidly to practice, being opposed by a team of which N. Levien had charge. Sixteen of the reps, wera present, the opposing side consisting of 19. The play generally cannot be spoken of in the highest term?, the passing being as wild ss it was possible to make it, and all round judgment on the part of the players being very deficient. It was a game in which the players ran themselves out, wish nothing to show for it except sweity brows and tired limbs. The wicd, howevfi 1 , prevented the best of work amongst the backs, who should have substituted short passes for long ones, uncertain at any time. Passes by the reps, as suggested would have routed the opposing side. As it was the all-comers Invariably secured a ball intended for an opponent, and working vigorously in other respeo's, with only three additional meo, having many seoond class players, too, among their number, appeared very little worse in point of play than the reps., who are selected for their wisdom and footbill prowe-s combined with other abilities, unfortunately conspicuous by absence on Saturday. Theresa? one gocd point in the game, it was quick and lively, and yet did not tend to a first-class display, it certainly would help to reduce the fat off some who very much need it. The reps, scored twice, a potted goal by Dee (4 points), and a try by Harfer, indeed a good one. He kicked a goal, and the total score was 9 point? to 3, a t r y by Hunt. The rep. team were out in their new jerseys — yellow, red, and black — which were much admiivd. Mr Walker, Secre aryof the Rugby Union, has received word from Westpore to the effect that the local governing body will be pleased to fa'l in with any re-arrangement of dates that may be found necessary, This smoothes matters over considerably, and if the steamer arrangement can be likewise satisfactorily settled, no further hitch is likely to arise. We believe that tha West Coast Union offered to give 75 per cent of the nett gate takings if the Nelson Union played I upon their own dates, but as the West Coasters entertain visitors in such a supreme style, 75 per c?nt of the nets takings is not likely to amount to much, and Nelsonhns are icclined to leave that offer severely alone. The Nelson Juniors were not very pleased at the Prince Albert Juniors not turning up to play the Cup fixture on Saturday. It was believed by the latter that matches were off on account of the rep. practice. As the NelFon juniors do not want to win their matches by forfeit, they ara willing to play next Saturday.
