Sydney, June 19. In the Legislative Aiiambly the third reading of the Customs Duties Bill is being dobated. In the Legislative Council, the Government motion to postpone the Land ar«i Inoome Tax Machinery Bill for a week vta« rejected by 38 to 9. In moving the second reading of the measure, the Hon lit Dant made a warm onslaught on the Oppositioniita, and declared that if thoie members who were Freetraders voted against same, it would be an unexampled aot of treaohary apd every opponent woald have to face the musio, 'iha Hon Mr Mabaurin opposed the attack, declaring the Bill a wrotohed one. It was purely class taxation, and would ruin the country. He was opposed to the exemptions in the Bill, and moved that the Bill be postponed for six months. The Hon Mr Heydon supported the amendment. The debate is adjourned. Stdnbt, Jane 20. During the debate in the Legislative Council on the Land and Inoome Tax bill, Sir J. B. Salmons suggested that the seoond reading shoald be adopted, and that the exemptions provided in the measure ehould be liruok out in Committee. The President ruled that it w«b impossible to amend the Bill in Committee, because that would hava an effect in the imposing of taxation, which was beyond the powers' of the Council.
