Wellington, May 24. Tbe v.eather was delightful for the holiday, which was closely observed. The chief attraction was the Otaki races, from where sports did not return until late to-night. The Chi dren's fSte on the Basin Reserve was not at ended by so rrany children as was anticipated. The Governor held a levee at noon, which .was larg ly attended. The D Bat cry fiied a s luta at 9 a.m., and H.M.S. Pylades followed suit at midday. Tbe usual parade of rifle companies did not take plaoe. All th« steamboats and railway esoorsioni were fairly well patronised.
