[PBOM OUB OWS CORBEBPONDHNT.I A most exoellent and anooaaafiil entertainment, consisting of vocal and instrumental musioj readings and recitations, etc., was bed in the Institute Hall 6a Wednesday evening, 220 d met., in aid of the funds of the local cricket club. The talent brought out on this occasion was certainly above the average generally displayed by local amateurs Rid ail those who were fortunate enough to be presant could not fail to be more than satisfied, both by the manner in which the various items we '6 executed, and also with the moderate charge at whioh they were admitted. The enteitaiument opened with a string trio by Mrs Cooke, and Me sra Manoy and Moore, whioh was so well received that the peiformera had to re-appear. Vocal solos were contributed by Messrs Gilbert and 0. H. King, Meddamei Cooke, Neve and Batch elor, and Miss Guy, all of whom appeared in esoellent form, and in nearly all oases were re-called. Mr George Thome payed very nioely a cornet eolo, being accompanied on the piano by Mr C. H. King, while the violin solo by Master A. Manoy was sweetly rendered. Mr 8. B. Oanavan gave a very amusing reading, while Mr F. Neve shone brightly aa a reciter, contributing no less than three contributions during ihe evening, the first of which, ' Hanging a pioture," being particularly well chosen, decidedly amusing, and well executed. The following ladies and gentlemen accompanied the various solos : — Meadamee Gilbert and Cooker, Miss Salmsnd, and Messrs 0. H. King and Moore. Edison's " meohanioal dolls," by Messrs Canavan and Startup, were amuiiag, and this item concluded the programme. Tbat the audience fully appreciated the execution bf the \arious items on the programme goes without saying, their favourable recaption being frequently shewn by the applause accorded each performer. . The whole programme was most successfully carried out, and although the attenda >cc was a good average one, especially in the front seats and gallery, the merits of the several performers certainly deserved a much larger number than actually attended. The members of the Band mustered, and creditably performed some seleationß outside the Building prior to the commencement of the entertainment. Motueka, May 22nd, 1895.
