Memoirs of Judge Higginbotham.
WEIiLIZ-.GTON, JJjy 10. With regard to Professor MorrL, of Melbourne, correcting Sir G. Grey'g reference to Mr Justice Higginbotbam quoted in the Professor's memoir, Sir B, Stoat thinks Sir G, Grey must have forgotten the actual facts when he said that if Mr Bigginbotham had
been able to come to New Zealand aB arbitrator in the difficulty with the M ioris much blodshed would have been eparel Sir Robert Stout gayß that in 1878 wh-n the N-ttiva Law Suits Act was brought io, Mr tlipgnbotham agradto Act as Commissiorer under it, but the Bill was dropped before the end of the session, and no appointment consequently was made. No difficulty has arisen with the Natives, anl of coarse there has be ?n no bloodshed since 1875. At that time Sir George Grey did not know Higginbotham, and it was at Sir Robert Stout's suggest on he was selected.
