Pleuro Pneumonia.
Chmbtohuboh, May 9. Mr GHruth, Government Veterinary Surgeon, arrived at Lyttelton this morning for tbe purpose of taking steps in oonneotion with tha Australian oattle on board the steamer Perthshire, one of whioh was suspeoted to be suffering from pleuro pneumonia. It wasi resolved to slaughter the beast, and MrGilroth with Mr Charlton. M.8.C.V.5., held a post mortem. A bullock whioh died on Tuesday was also examined. No information as to the result was allowed to leak oat till instructlbne were reoeived cfrom Wellington, but as the lime for the steamer's departure draw near, a rumor spread that the Government had refused her Cußtoms clearance, without which she oonld not proceed to sea. Upon enquiry at the Cußtoms this waß fonnd to be correct, but about 4 p.m instruotions were reoeived from Wellington that the vessel was to be allowed to proceed ta sea, and it was then learned tbat the bullock killed that morning had been found to be Buffering from contagious pleuro pneumonia. The other animal, whio'i died on Tuesday, showed signs of gangrenous pneumonia. Both bodies were left on beard the tteamer, and will be thrown overboard when she gets to sea.
