NELSON PEBMANENT BUILDING SOCIETY.

A special meeting of tfae Direotors of the Permanent Baiiding Sooiety of Kelson was held on April 10 for the purpose of|reoeiving the profit and loos aooount for the past half year, and declaring tbe profit for tbat period. It appeared that the total profit for the six months was £1555 ls 6d. and it was resolved to deolare a profit at the rate of seven per cent per annum, which will absorb £1472 83 6d, leaving a balanoe to oarry forward of £82 13s, whioh is larger than the amoant brought forward at tbe end of the previous half ysar by £5 2s 3d. We learn that the expenditure for the period referred to £254 18s Sd for management and ordinary expenses, and it is satisfactory to know that the fineß inflicted for non punctuality in payment were less than nsual. The record of the Sooiety must be deemed very satisfactory. Duriog the last term money was in considerable demand, so muoh so that tbe Direotors bave accepted £3000 on fixed deposits, at the rate of 4$ ncr cent per annum, aud have thos avoided paying higher rates for overdraft. The Secretary was authorised last night to pay oat maturing shareß at once, and tbe exact amounts due will be paid in cash, while releases of mortgages will be prepared immediately. A new series of shares, the 67th, will date from Monday, the 22nd inst, instead of Monday next, that day being a holiday, and thej

ordinary monthly subscription meeting will, for the rame reason, be held on the 22nd inst. Nominations for the position of Directors and Auditors will be receive*/ up till four p.m. on Wednesday, the 24th April, and the election will take plaoe at the annual meeting in May. The retiring Directors are Messrs B. 8. Chisholm, P. Co,ke, F. Trask, and R. Wainhouse.
