1.0.G.T. — We again remind our readers of the Conversazione to be held at the Port Hall this evening in connection with the Loyal Marine Lodge's 20th anniversary. A firstrata programme is to be submitted, and refreshments will also be provided. The meeting commences at half-paat seven, and we trust there will be a large attendance.
Corporation Finances— At the last meeting of the City Council, Or Root said he observed that tbe nett overdraft was now only £800 which was lower than it had been for many months. Or Piper said tbat if they looked a little deeper they would find the position was not bo satisfactory for the overdraft should be much less at this time of year. They had spent their funds right up to the hilt. In answer to Or Piper the Town Clerk aaid tbat the expenditure within the half half year was about £3300. Cr Fip;r then said that that was £300 io. exoesa of half tbe year's revenue. He urged that it was more neoesrary to watch tbe expenditure than the ovetdcaft. Or Akersten said perhaps the late flood had added to their expendiure. The Mayor said no doubt it bad. Cr Afkaw said that instead of £800, tbe net overdraft was £1300 with the payments for the night. The Mayor said against that there would be the receipts coming in within the next fortnight.
St. Mart's Organ Fond.— An entertainment in aid of the above named fund was given at (be Frovinoial Hall, last evening, when the Very Father Mahoney presided. The reverend gentleman thanked the publio for their liberal patronage. A capital programme was presented, whioh included— Pianoforte so!o .. Miss Scott Song .. .. . i ..Mr Bain Sang Mrs Howie Beoitation Mr Sheridan Song .. .. «, Mrs Roberts Song Dr Duff Song Mrs Akebs Humorous Reading . . Mr Maginnity Song Mr Oondell Recitation .. .. Mr Sheridan Pianoforte eolo . . Misses Broad & Ddff. Tbe recitations were well received, and the bclos given by Mrs Howie, Dr. Doff, and Mrß Roberta were so good that in each case a repetition was demanded. An abundance of good things were provided, and Mrs Couneell and the young ladies who assisted her had a busy time in distributing the refreshments. Dinoing followed, Jind was kept np with spirit until midnight, Mr Miller proving an efficient master of ceremonies. The Cornmi tee are to be congratulated on the eucoess of their undertaking.
Curt Little John, A.O.F— Last evening the anniversary of this Court was celebrated by a public tea, when between sixty and seventy persons partook of the excellent rrpast provided by Bro Clements. At the meeting which followed, Bro Baiter, PC.fi, presided. The Chairman fluid that there were 54 members on the roll, and duriog tbe past twelve months beven had been trans-* ferred into the adult Court. During tbe same period, £6 15a was disbursed in Bick pay, and the Court has now £108 invested. Sister East and Bros. Bond, Clarke, Harford, and Hurley contributed to the harmony. Dancing was afterwards indulged in for a coople of hoars. Several of the Sisters, in regalia, presided at the tea tables. A Correction. — A very evident error occurred in Mr W. Akersten's letter, which ap • peared in yesterday morning's paper, and that gentleman has something to say about it in this issue.
