Agricultural Show.
Napier, October 5. Though the morning opened showary and threatening, there was notwithstanding a very large attendance at the Agricultural and Paatoral Show and the afternoon proved sunny though cold. The most noticeable feature was the ocmplete absence of merinos in the cheep classes. Linoolna also weie lesa 1 numerous, and the only Down sheep were a j few Sbropsbifes sent by one exhibitor. On the other hand Komney Marsh and English j border Leioesterß wire far moie numerous' than ever before, showing the set of publio opinion amoog the sheep farmers of Hawke's ' Bay. Mr Tanner took both championships in both Lincoln end English Leicest r?, tbe latter wish a ewe which beat all England at tbe Poyal Agricultural Show last year, and a ' ram which was a twin brother to the prize ram there. Mr A. Harding took maa'y all prizes, and the ram championship in Kir- i neys, beating all imported stook in every class but one. Mr F. Hatohiog exhibited the \ champion ewe. In the Border Leicesters, Mr Ormond and Mr Nelsju divided the chief honors, the former getting tbe ram championBhip, with an animal bred by Mr Holmes, of Canterbury, and the latter the ewe award, with a ewe bred by Little Bros., of Otago. Ia thoroughbred horses the championship wa3 awarded to Jet d'eau, who beat Natator, Dreadnought, St. Andrew, and Mosquetaire. In cattle, Mr A. McHardy's, Mr T. H. Lawry's and the Mount Herbert Estate cups went to a bull imported by McHardyfrom Sir William Clarke's herd, Victoria ; that for cowa to the Mount Herbert Estate, with a locally bred animal, which beat another importation from Sir W. Clarke's herd. The show of implements was very large, and the miscellaneous exhibit classes filled well. •
