Shanghai, October 3. On September 28th the Japanese fleet was ten milea off Hhankatkwan. A war levy is being made on Chinese merchants. • (Received October 5, at 1,40 a.m.) October 4, The Japanese hava reached Lanchf in the t Province of Kilia. Fugitives from Ping Yang (have effected a junoiion with the troops ) landed at tbe month of the Yalu and others from Shintung, and the whole force ia entrepohed at Loan, whore it is expeoted a decisive battle will shortly be fought.
