Bir A Clarke denies that he was receiving the salary attached to the office of Agent - General, and asserts tbat be only received his pension, He also states tbat be never Implied he would aooept permanent appointment to the position as Victorian representative in London, and would have been reluctant to take the offioe had it been offtred him.
