Thb Late Coach Accident on Bullbb Boad. — A special correspondent telegraphed us last night as to the result of an action against the County Council arising out oi the late accident on the Boiler road, near Lyell, and which led to the death Of Mrs Mitchell and the injury of a passenger. The telegram states that " the case of Dizon and Michell v. the Boiler County Council came off to-day before his Honor Judge Waxd and a jury of four. The case occupied all day, resulting in a verdict for the former of £400, and Mitchell £300. The verdict is subject to certain law points reserved." A Race. — Taking advantage of the Wednesday half holiday, a race which caused considerable interest amongst the sports of Nelson took place yesterday between the well known hacks Stifflega and Swltchtail ; the former belonging tq a well known tradesman, and the latter owned by a local farmer. The distance was from Grove street to the Cemetery and back. Owing to Stifflegs treading on a stone she fell, and considerably disabled her rider, and so lost the race, but Switofctail coming in well in band, his owner claimed the stakes, whioh were handsome. We hear that the owner of Stifflegs intends enteridg a protest against the stakes being paid over, alleging that Swltchtail did not cover the specified distance. The judge's decision will no doubt be anxiously awaited.
