[UNITED PBESB ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, July 11. Mr 11. S. Smith, formerly of the New Zealand Postal Department, now resident in San Francisco, succeeds the late R. J. Creigaton as the New Zealand mail agent. The front windows in the shop of Mr Campbell, jeweller, Cuba street, was broken early this morning about 4.30 o'clock. Gold and silver watohea were abstracted, the loss being over £10. The Hntt County Council have confirmed the decision to adopt the toll gate system, ana in view that the last attempt to erecrt gates failed through the structures having been demolished, have instr acted the Chairman to wait on the Government to ask for the protection of new gates.
