MOTUEKA.

The death of the Mr George Jennings on Friday morning last was qnite unexpected, and eauaed quite a gloom over the place upon the Bad event becoming known ; he was, just previous to his death, apparantly recovering from a reoent severe illneaa. The deoeased gentleman was a son of the late David Jennings, Eeq, an old and respeoted settler o! the Pangatotara, and brother of the Revs 0. and B. Jennings. He had baen teaohsr of the Riwaka State School for the past nine years, whioh position he continued to hold umil the time of his death, having previously held for some four years the office of Diocesan Secretary of the Anglican Churoh in Nelson. He wbs a prominent member of St Thomas' Ohuroh and Vestry, Motueka, and was for several successive years a ohurchwarden, a position which he filled with great credit, and from which he retired only in June last. The funeral took place on Sun. day afternoon, leaviDg his late residence, the Riwaka sohool-hpuse, for the Motueka cemetery, the gathering being a very large one, over 30 vehicles, several horsemen, and the late soholara of the deoeaaed on foot forming the procession, in whioh waß inoluded many friends from Motaeka, where, as well as in Riwaka, the deoeased was highly respected, some 3QQ friends thus testifying thejr last respect to the memory of the deoeaeed. Great sympathy is expressed for his widow and family, who are thus deprived of future happiness in the oompany of a kind husband and father.
