NELSON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

A meeting of this Sooiety was held in the Gounoil Chamber last evening, when Mr Langley Adams, one of the vice-Presidents, occupied the ohair. In his opening remarks the Chairman said that he had discovered in conversing with Mr Greenfield that there WB3 a balance of £6 7s Id standing to the credit of the old Society at the Bank of New South Wales, and the Committee would be glad to learn that with the assistance of the Treasurer of the old Society, Mr Fell, this amount had been banded over to them, fie also said that there was a possibility of receiving fifty shillings in addition. Mr Firth the hon. Secretary, presented a balance sheet to date, whioh showed that the late Show had, with donations, resulted in a slight profit, the membership fees— there being 120 members who had paid 5s each -being to the good. The balance now standing to the credit of the Society amounted to £37 18s 3d inoluding £31 lie 3d on acoount of the present Sooiety, and the sum of £6 7s Id received from the old Society. On the motion of Mr J. .Holloway seconded by Mr Grigor the aooonnts were adopted, and satisfaction was expressed with the results arrived at. Mnoh dieoaasion took plaoe relative to the Frnit and Flower Show to be held about the first week in March, and the Chrysanthemum Show to be held

abont the last week in April. A sab-Commit- 1 tee consisting of Miss Bell, Miss Gasooigne, Messrs Mceller, Campbell, J. Hale and Holloway, was appointed to draft schedules of prizes for these Shows the same to be submitted to the general Committee. It was stated that several ladies and gentlemen has expressed a desire to offer special prizes for these Shows, and a hope was expreaed that all willing to assist in this way will at onoe oommunioate with the hon. Secretary Mr Firth, intimating for what exhibits they will give prizes so that the ordinary prizes may not clash with the special ones. Some disoussion took place with regard to obtaining a large tent for the exhibitions, and ultimately on the motion of Mr Bannehr seconded by Mr Holloway, it was agreed to enquire as to hiring one.
