JUBILEE CELEBRATION.

CHILDREN'S TREAT COMMITTEE. At the meeting last night there were twenty-nme teachers present, including a deputation from the country. Mr W. T. Bond presided. liesolved, That the time for tenders for the services of a Band be extended till Monday, January 25th. Mr (ireenwood reported that Colonel Pitt had granted the me of the Drill Shed for February 3rd ; and Mr Haddow that the use of the Wesleyan Schoolroom had also been granted. From the replies from Chairmen of local committees of education, it was shown about one thousand children might be expected from the oonntry on February 3rd, and fifteen hundred from town and suburbs. Mr Veysey, secretary of the Sports Committee, brought up a report, showing that a variety of games and amusements were proposed. Mr Jobn Robertson, the Seoretary of the Provision Committee, brought up a report showing that to give the children two meals on February 3rd £65 would be required. The meals would comprise buns, meat sandwiches, biscuits, cake, and tea. Resolved, That an invitation be given for gifts of fruit, to be sent to the Wesleyan Schoolroom or Mr Pettit's store. Resolved, That the Chairman invite tenders for the right of a refreshment booth OH February 3rd, in the Botanical Reserve.

Resolved, That at meal time on February 3rd, ihß children be grouped according to their respective bclioolb. Resolved, That Messrs Q. Harkneaa and Veyaey, with the Executive Committee, arrange the order of prooeesion, and report at next meeting. Eev. F. W. ißitt reported that he and Mr Haddow had interviewed tho Manager of the Railway on the snbject of fares to be charged on Februry 3rd. Return tickets for children under 12 would be 4d ; Bchool ohildren between 12 and 15. 6d ; and that no special terms wonld be granted to the teachers. Exception waß taken to some of the remarks made at the last meeting of the Jubilee Committee. It was pointed out that the Children's Treat Committee had been appointed to oarry out the treat, which had twice been fixed to take place on February 3rd, and they conld not see that they should be Warned for not understanding duties belonging to a second day. Resolved, That the Provision Committee be requested to provide refreshments for such oountry school children as may visit the city on Monday, February Ist, to take part in that day's demonstration, the General Jubilee Committee being requested to vote a further sum of ten pounds for the purpose ; also, that the Railway Manager be asked to grant the came concession for the Monday, to children between the ages of 12 and 15, as will be made on the Wednesday. In reply to a question, the Chairman stated that it was the intention of the Town Schools Committee in giving the holidays when they did, that the teachers should be back at their posts so as to be able to take charge of their respective scholars in the procession on February Ist. He felt sure the teachers would receive instructions to that effect. Messrs Langford and Humphreys wished to do away with any impression that the country teachers were not going to help with tho treat. Thoir presenoe, as a deputation, that evening disproved that. At first, when it was deoided to hold tho troat in town, there was some feeling shown, but that was over now. Eesolved, That the country school children be requested, by advertisement, on the arrival of the first train on Monday, February Ist, to fall into procession at the Railway Station, where they will be taken charge of by Messrs Langford, Humphreys, and other teachers. The Committee agreed with Mr Cowles that parents must take charge of any children who remain in town on February Ist to see tho fireworks, or after the Fei;e on February 3rd. It was stated that on February 3rd the children from the country would arrive about 10 in the forenoon, and return about 6.30 p.m, and that a Band would be required from 11 am to 5 p.m. Resolved, That Mr G. Harkness assist Mr Greenwood as Secretary. Resolved, That the Chairman report the result of the meeting to tho General Jubilee Committee. Resolved, That a vote of thanks be given to the deputation attending from the country. Resolved, That the Committee meet at 8 o'clock on Tuesday evening.
