' : Mr Phillips proposed that the st^ps requisite should be taken to establish an aided school at Davil'a Creek. — Carried. ■ > v' In reference to the teacher afAwaroa, Mr Smith having resigned, it was resolved io ask Mr Hadfield to recommend a suitable teacher. To consider letters. from Addisons Flat in reference to the vacant taaohership, and also to consider applications for same, the Boavd went into Committee. After half an hoars discussion, it 'was resolved to postpone the whole question till next month, * and in the meantima that Me Bourke and Mr Regan be obmmunwated wUh. ' Mr Tarrant moved, that the resignation be accepted with deepest regret, and the Board earnestly trusts that entire rest may so restore his health as to enable him at some future time to again offer his valuable services to the Educational District of Nelson as a member of the Board. Mr Clayden seconded the motion, and aßked that a letter should be written expressing the feeling of the Board, and signed by each member. — Carried. - ■ The Secretary was instructed to taka steps to fill the vacancy. The report of the .Revision of Salaries Committee waa on the motion of Mr Hursthouse deferred until next meeting. He said that, he thought the matter should be discussed by a full Board, and he felt especially that the ability of the Hon J. Shephaid would be a valuable aid in the disoussion. In reference to the central site for -Town aohool, Mr Clayden moved that the matter should be postponed until the new School Committee had an opportunity of going thoroughly into the matter.— Carried' Miss Wray was appointed to Rookvitla. school. The proposed boundaries for Granity Creek were accepted, subjeot to the approval of the Survey Office. A petition was read from inhabitants of Burnett's Faoe in reference to school wanted. —Deferred. - A letter from the Department mentioned books that were on the Board's list, and which were not authorised by the Department. Leave was granted to the Inspeotor to reply to same. Finance Committee. This Committee made the following recommendations :— That a sum not exceeding £10 be granted Motupipi, for roofing the the older portion of the school with iron. That the Banzau Committee be authorised to aooept Mr W. £. Wilkea,' tender for repairing Ranzau school, £25 Bs. That in view of money already expended, and bonus granted Mr' Coagrove, Weafport, by way of extra house allowance, the Board does not .feel justified in defraying the sxpensea ot Mr Cosgrove in papering rooms, and further it is contrary to By Laws to do so for works not sanctioned by the Board. That the Board cannot give precedence to the Westport Committee's application for a new teacher's house, the Board having a great many more urgent cases before it. . That a sum not exceeding £10 be gran'.ed the Pangatotara Committee, for erecting a room. . That the East Takaka Committee be authorised to expend the sum (£10) said to be necessary by the Chairman for repairs to school; that the Committee be requested to make an enquiry into the origin of the fire ; that the Secretary forward to the Department particulars, and ask for a refund. . ~ ' That the Secretary of the former Committee at Capleston be requested to furnish papers and accounts for audit purposes. That the Westport Committee .be informed that missing vouchers should be procured for the auditor's satisfaction. That plans for the proposed addition to the Richmond Girls .School be approved if the work can be done for the sum named. . On Inspector's and architect's recommend, ation, that the Stoke Committee be authorised to procure plans for the erection of a new room to replace present front room* and to cost not more than £150, and not to be more than 24ft x 20ft, and submit same to Board. That the Committee cannot recommend a grant to the Waimangaroa Committed for fencing, their estimate being too high. '■■.' The Board's .accounts show a credit on General Account of £2707 Os sd, subject to payments of the day, £1645 4s 9d. The Building Fund is all allocated, the available balance being but £3 9s lOd. The Biverdale Committee asked if the Inspector had not to visit each school, and stated that he, while lately in their district, had not visited Biverdale.
