THE SWEATING COMMISSION

Wellington, April 21. Before the Sweating Commission to-day, a plumber said that a large amount of defectiveplumbing was done in Wellington, and the result was; of ten defeotive sanitary arrangements, from whioh sickness arose. Unskilled workmen started in business, and they in turn employed boys or incompetent hands, and were not capable of directing them. It was a faot that the employment of plumbers was a terror to the householders in Wellington just now.
An ez assistant groom of the Go-operative Bus Company said ha worked five days in the week from 5.30 a.m. to 11 p.m., and on another day from 5.30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and his wages were 25s per week. The President of the Bakers Union, stated that before the Union came into existence the takers in some shops worked from 80 to 90 hoars per week, but now the hours had been reduced toJS7 per week.
