FIRES.

April 11. On Tuesday morning about eleven o'olock a six roomed house, the property of and occupied by Mr Wakefield at Hope, and situated at the foot of ihe hills on the road to Aniseed Valley, was burned down. Thehouse was insured for £100 in the Sun Office, but the furniture was uninsured, and Mr Wakefield estimates his loss at £70 over the amount of insurance.

On Sunday morning about 1 a.m. an an* occupied house the property of Me Christian Sohwass of Waimea West, and situated nearly opposite the Waimea West Church was burned down. The house ia a quarter of a mile away from Mr Schwass's place of residence, and the nearest house is some 300 yards away. The house has been unoccupied, for 4 or 5 months, the windows and doora being boarded up, and Mr Schwass was away in Wellington at the time of the fire. The building is said to have been insured, but we have not been able to obtain any particulars of it.

At 5 o'clock on Monday morning last a six roomed dwelliog house, the property of and oooapied by Mr Henry Sohwass, in Eedwood's Valley, together with barn, stable, and outbuildings, was totally destroyed by fire;. Mr Schwass, with Ws family, were away xa Takaka at the time, and it is not known that anything was saved. The dwelling housa was insured in the Colonial Office for £100 r and the barn, b table, and outbuildings for £75 in the same office.
