The open meeting in connection with the Juvenile Eechabites passed off very successfully last night, there hein^ a very fanattendance of the public present. The chair was taken by Bro Hayes, of the adult Tent, and a lengthy programme was gone through to the satisfaction of those present. Avery, Webley and Fairey; emergency, May. Social Gathering.—This evening a public social gathering in connection with the Wesleyan Church anniversary will be held in the Schoolroom. A small charge will be made for admission, but a* musical and intellectual treat will be provided, also refreshments. It appears Mrs A. M'Gee was brought up at Blenheim on Monday, when she was discharged in re spectof her attempt to commit suicide, the Bench considering the evidence insufficient to prove felonious intent. She was immediately re-arre»ted, and was remanded for seven days for medical treatment. An Unfounded Report. — Some insane individual caused a little consternation in town last night, ,by circulating a report that the barque Glenlora, which arrived from London about dusk, was flying the yellow ■flag, and had seventeen cases of small-pox on board. Naturally the very idea of having such, a disease brought so close to us created some alarm, but we are glad to say that the vessel was boarded last evening and that no disease was reported. Whoever spread the story deserves to be punished for his sorry joke. Charge of Forgery.—The police have received a telegram fr6m Blenheim sta-ing that a man named Eobert Crawley, charged on warrant with having committed a forgery at Wellington, was arrested at Spring .Creek at an early hour on Sunday morning. He has been remanded to Wellington. Assaulting a Constable. — A prisoner named Charles Maloney was brought down from the Lyell in the last coach, the prisoner having been sentenced to six months imprisonment in the Nelson Gaol fof a most aggravated assault upon Constable Bowden at the Lyell.
