MEETING OP RATEPAYERS. At the annual meeting of ratepayers, held at the' Schoolroom on the 12th inst, Mr Jas. Haycock in the chair, there was more than usual interest taken in the procsoding?, and the number present was larger than on any former similar occasion. * After the annual report and accounts, <fco. f bad been read and approved, a lengthy discussion was carried on respecting the proposed County rate, and resolutions were passed nem. con. as follows .:— "That this meeting having full confidence in the Road Board being able to manage its own affairs, as proved by the statement laid before the meeting, the Board is requested not bo entertain the proposal to hand over the management to the County Council." " That a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to the members of the Road Board for past services." <( That a special vote of thanks he accorded to Mr John Urereton for his services as Chairman of the Board for the past, five years and upwards, and that a copy of this resolution be sent to Mr Brereton." The mee^ng then terminated. MEETING OF THE ROAD BOARl). A meeting of the Road Board was held on May 12, when all the members were present. Resolved, That Mr James Haycock be the Chairman of the Pangatotara Road Board for the year. • The minutes of the last meeting were then read and confirmed : also, the correspondence read and approved. Mr G. Remnant tlien interviewed the Board relative to a ditch that wis blocked up, causing an amount of surface water to overflow,, upon his land. The Chairman was requested to vi3ifc the place, and get done what was necessary. With regard to a letter fiom the Pokororo Road Board, referring to the bad state of a road leading from that district to the Pangatotara School, it was resolved that the Secretary see the persons most interested, and arrange for the necessary work to bs done, and the' Board will pay £2 towards the ex* pense. On a letter being read from Mr H. Grooby, requesting the Board to find him a road to his property, the Secretary was instructed to see Mr W. Marshall and ascertain on what terms he will sell a road 33 feet wide through his property, and report to the next meeting. Resolved, That when Mr R. Lloyd has done work, to the satisfaction of the Board, upon the road to his place, to the amount of £5, the Board will pay him £2 10s. Resolved, That ths Secretary employ day men and carts for repairing the upper and lower river roads. Resolved, That Me Rose have the read repaired near Mr F. Hienie's, and that Mr White get a culvert put across the road near Mr Burrell's property. Resolved, That 10a be paid Mr J. A. Hayoook for improving the approach to the river at the Graham crossing. Resolved, That tenders be called for work on the Rosedale Boad. The following tenders were received for waterfcabling, &c , at Earthquake Spur:—H. Grooby and Co., £3 10a (accepted); H. Hudson, £6. Warrants were signed for £12 9a. The next meeting of the Board ivill be held on June 9.
