A CLEVER ROBBERY FRUSTRATED.
Melbouene, 18th March. Ono o{ the most cievi-riy-planne'i robberies yet reported was frn-ilraled i« Melbourne List week. A G<rnnu> named Gillivaii disposed of tome property at Richmond for tome hundred* of pound*, and, being; afraid of the banks, decided to keep the money in his ljonse for safety. Towards evening a young mau kuouked at the do r, and told Mra Gilivrtd that her husband had beoa i(_pred while at work a; O'-'bniv, und was in the hospital. The wife stared off, but on arriving at the hospital w.is surprised to fmd that her husband was uot there. Goiug home she met htr husband, and both hurried home together. On arriving they found the place completely ransacked, the robbers leaviug nothing unturued to find the largo sum of money, which was evidently the object of their search, as nothing el^e was taken away. Mr.Gillivad had, however, before takiog their departure, transferred the money to her p.ckefc, and so the burglars were frustrated.
