CORRESPONDENCE.
THE SURVIVORS.
To the Editor of the Colonist.
Sir, —With reference to the heal which appeared in your valuable issue of this morning, I have been reminded that amongst those who were present, and took part in the first anniversary fete, on the Ist of February, 1843, Mr Alex.' McDonald, first manager of the Bank of Australia, in Nelson, is still living, bale and hearty, in Sydney. It is hoped, also, that Mr J. Stuart Tytler may still be living at his home in Christchurch.
1 would further add that one important name was omitted in the list. Owing to the dilapidated condition of the old paper, was omitted that of late Mr Charles Elliott, publisher of the ' Nelson Examiner' (believed to be the first published newspaper in New Zealand). This gentleman was foremost in originating tbe celebration, and in directing the revels ; he may indeed be remembered as almost the "founder of the feast."
Yours &c, W. M. Stanton.
