No improvement in the demand was shown, and the market was eteady, but inactive. Inferior merino wools were lid and 2Jd lower than last Bales' closing rates; washed fleece |d to Id lower; and medium scoured lambi I*dto2d. October 2. The second race between the American yachts Volunteer and Thistle for the American Cup took place to-day and resulted in a win for the American yacht by upwards of two miles. During the race a strong wind with a heavy sea was experienced. The Volun* teer having won two races is declared the holder of the Cup.
