THE ESTIMATES.
(Prom the 'Evening Post,' Jun« 20.) - The Estimates for the year 1885-86; were laid upon tHe table of the House last night. The total appropriations under the ordinary revenue; account are £3,?72v133, as against £8v81?,043 ; last year, the amount expended oHhe .: appropriation; for 1884-85 being £3,789,209. The permanent appropriations for the year are £1,800,107 being aniinerease of. £157,518. The ; total annual appropriations are ;: . £2,172,026. The Legislative branch shows a reduction of £50,195 on last year's vote. This reduction is owing . to there having been two sessions last. year, and to the further fact that the i honorarium is now being voted under f, r special Act' and placed'under per*'•• -bmanent appropriations i ' * In ' the Colonial Secretary's department 'there, is a decrease of £20,000 in the votpjvf There is a reduction' in the Colonial Treasurer's department of £3876. In the department of the Minister of Justice there is a reduction of. £2000. In the Postmaster-General's depwrtr,:" ment there is an increase over last year'B expenditure of: .£16,716 * I Cu»toms, increase, £1500 ; Stamps, de-. . crease, £1000; Education, increase, £20,700 ; Native department, increase £1300; Mines,"increa,sei £80QU Publio Works, increase, £5000";* 'Defence, increase, £26,274. The total^perma- ;;. nent appropriations (Land Fund '. Account) under special Acts of Legislature amount to £32,000, as against,«.;, £26,500 last year. Under this heading, appropriation for Minister 4 of;; • Lands, shows decrease of £44,100, ' while the appropriation, for the ] Colonial Treasurer (rates, Crown and. Native lands) show an increase of £2258. The total appropriations under the Land Fund Account are £207,935, as against £243,281 Toted last year (of which amount £208,118 were expended). The total appropriations for services chargeable on Consolidated Fund show an increase p£ , £117,744, the total for this year being £4,180,068. The amount expended of last year's vote was £3,997,227. The appropriations for services chargeable on Public Trust Offioes Expense! Account are £4275, being a slight increase on last-year's vote. -■'
