TOWN V. COLLEGE. This match took place in the Botanical Reoerve on Saturday afternoon, and resulted in a victory for the former Club by 8 " try "» to nil. The Town Club is to be congratulated on having at laaii obtained a ■ victory over their old opponents, who hare for the last two or three years held the supremacy. Both teams arrived on the ground to time, and the gaino started punctually at three o'clock. Adams, the captain of the Town team, having won the toes, elected to defend the eastern goal, thus having the slight wind that vras blowing at tb<» time in his favor for the first and laßt quarters of the game. Harkneßs, who captained the College team, kicked off to Hitching, who essayed a run, but was almost immediately collared by the College forwards, and some hard scrimmaging took place for the next ten minutes, the Town team being slightly the Btrphger gradually working the ball towards their opponent's goal, until it was smartly passed to (Seymour who made a good run for tbe College well down the field where soorno loose scrimmaging (ben look place, in which the town men got the advantage, and the forwards by a splendid rush forced them to touch down. On its beiug brought into play again some more scrimmaging took place until Bolton got the ball and with a good run carried it to within a few feet of the Collie goal, when time was called. The second quarter cooomQiiced by Wulker kickiug off ior the Town, and the Town forwards having followed it up well prevented the College backs from returning it. A lot of hard scrimmaging took place close to tho Collego £oal lino until Eichmoud b.y a oplandid run curried the bull through tho College backs, and Bocured tho only ruu-iii of the game. Walker tried at goal, bufc failed to score more than a " try." Tho ball being brought into play again, the College made a dater i ined rush, and with the help of a good run from Seymour, ran the ball to within a few yards of the Town goal line, bub'woo almost immediately carried back to the middle of the field, mainly owing to the smart play of K. Bolton. Here some more scrimmaging took place until time was called. The third quarter commenced with a succession of scrimmages in tho centre of the field, where the College seemed to have tho advantage, but towards the end the Town succeedod in gradually forcing thoiv opponents back, but had not obtained much ground before time was called. The last quarter commenced by soriinmaging almost opposite and close to the College goal. Each aide seemed determined to do their best and some good play ensued. Lightfoot and E Bolton made several good short runs, but could uofc force their way through tho Collego backs, and H. Bolton and Weeding did good Bervice us forwards, and collared woll. Buckeridgo made two good runs for the College towards the close, and brought the ball well down the field, where lit remained until timo was called. For the Co'lege Littlejoho, Saytnour, Glasgow, Oldbuai, aod Trotter played well, and K. Bolton, Aaams, Richmond, Atkinson, and Wigzell for the Town. Tho game waa very unintsrfstiog both to the spectators and players, owing to the*forwards (especially the College) persisting in tjoing down on their hands and knoea in the scrimmages. Wo would like to mention that this practice is totally at variance with football rules of the present time, and tho players should stand up and play the game.
