Messrs Moorhouse and Stringer are t the only two candidates, and both have been J* before the burgesses previously. t I Another Street Accident.—On Saturday 1 "! evening an accident occurred in Nile steeet " West, by which a young lady was badly hurt. • v I The young lady in question, Miss Bolton, j '! was being driven to her home at Waimea j I West in a buggy, wlen in turning into the. ' street named the reins broke, and the driver, » a young man named Tomlinson had, of { course, no further control of the horse Cm y the animal bolting, Miss Eolton tried to jump out at the rear of the buggy, but in doing so ( she fell upon her head, and with such force ( that one of her earrings was driven into her cheek, ih 3 was picked up in an insensible condition, and taken into a house opposite , ; where the accident happened, but after a j ; time she le covered sufficiently to proceed on 1 krway. I Presentation.—On Saturday last the Eev i Father Garin presented Mr Kavanagh with a ' purse of sovereigns is a substantial testi- ' ; monial in appreciation of his conduct as I 1 master of the Sfc Mary's Boys' School for ; nearly five years. Father Mahoney also { I expressed his regret at Mr Kavanagh's de'!j parture from the school, and he referred to ' j Mrs Kavanagh in very friendly and compli- ?; mentary terms, adding that many would feel \ . her loss. Mr Kavanagh returned thanks on t j Ms own behalf and that of Mrs Kavanagh, ' ! and expressed their regret at leaving their , friends.
