[United Pbess Absooutioh Tilkubaim.] Wblx-inoion, August 6. Last night Mr Moorhouse moved that the House go into Committee on the Deceased Wife's Sister Bill. The motion for going into Committee wu carried on a division bj 46 to 18. Mr Pitt'moved an amendment to prerent the Bill baring a retrospective action in affecting iaheritanoe. Several motions to report progress were lost by large majorities, and ultimately at 245 the Bill was reported without amend- , ments, and the third reading ordered for next Thursday at 730. The third report of the West Coast Commission was presented to Parliament. The House net at 11 o'clock this merning, and went into Committee on the Crown Grants Amendment Bill, which passed without amendment. The Counties Act was next considered in Committee. The House adjourned at 1.20 p.m. The House resumed at 230 p.m. Mr J. B. Fisher moved that the report o the Goldfields Committee in the case of H. Howe and others, be approved of. He stated' that the Cemmittee had found that the petition contain fid unwarrantable allegation! against a judicial officer, suoh allegations not being supported by evidence. The Committee strongly reprobated such conduct. Tb» motion was agreed to. The House then went into Committee on the Native Land Sales Bill. Mr Reader Wood moved aa amendment to Clause 3, to make it read that natives may at their own option bring their land under the Act. A long debate ensued, when the question was put that the Clause remain part of the Bill, and a division folldwed—Ayes, 34; Noes, 25. ' "" " Sir G. G-rey moved an amendment, the object of which was to provide for the sale of such lands being competed for in aa open market, tbns giving the Natives a chance of obtaining fair prices for their lands. The speaker was interrupted by the 5*30 adjournment.
