AUCKLAND COAL.
The coal from the various coalfields of this Province is steadily driving out the imported article. It was but the other day that the management of the Taupiri mine refused to contract for coal supplies for the Waikato Kail way, as they had already a large and profU&bie market for all that could be raised. After yean of effort the Bay of Islands Coal Company is coming to the front, and is i^ow declaring a \O, per cent dividend. Its output last year was 33 per cent in excess of former years' yield, and the proposed increase: of capital about to be raised, it should be in a position to compete in the intercolonial market. The Government hag promised an immediate commencemgnt of the tramway from the mine to deep \7atel:, so as to enable g'teamers of lange draught and tonnage to obtain coal speedily and oheaply. Captain Dearborn, of the City of Sydney, paid a visit
to the mine the other day for the p\irj)oae, it-is understood,' bi ascertaining the feasibility of the great ocean stearmhipa of the Pacific Mail Company obtaining their Bupplies from that source. — Correspondent Otago Daily Times.
