NEW ADVERTISEMENTS. npO THE CITIZENS OE NELSON. Ik accordance with the request of several of the Ratepayers of this Municipality, I have allowed myself to be Nominated as a Candidate for one of the existing vacanoies in the City Council. In thus consenting I have been actuated by the feeling that, being so long a resident here, I am not unaware of what is required of a Councillor, and I think it only due to the Ratepayers to pledge myself, should they do me the honor of eleoting mo, to carefully watch their interests, and generally, to the best of my ability, to strive to obtain the greatest good for the greatest number. A^mr B P JOHN TUTTY. The Port, Nelson, . September sth, 1877. 1331 CITY COUNCIL ELECTION. TO THE EATEPAYEKS OF NELSON. GENTLEMEN,— The Municipal Corporations Aot of 1876 having rendered the resignation of the Members of the Oity Ctfuncil imperative, I have now to ask you to renew, for a further period, the confidence you have placed in me, by Re-electing me as one bf your Representatives. The three subjects that, will .occupy the attention of tbe new City Council are—" The Drainage of the City," "The Acquisition of the Reserves formerly held by the Provincial Authorities," and.'the absolute "Purchase on Equitable Terms of the Gas and Waterworks." In .reference to the first mentioned subject, I pledge myself, iu the event of my reelection, to support the construction of -public works that tend to improve the sanitary, condition of the City in preference to those that merely conduce to the convenience of the citizens. The control (with a view to their utilisation) of tbe reserves within the precincts of tbe Municipality will also receive my support, while in reference to the purchase of the j Gas and Waterworks, at an equitable valuation, I j hold that such purchase would be-extremely beneficial to my fellow citizens, and will aocelerate the same by every means in my power. i I am, Gentlemen, I .
