The Chief Justice finished summing up in the Waka Maori libel action shortly before four o'clock this afternoon, having commenced at ton'this morning. After instructing the jury as to the issues, his Honor said that if the jury/found any of the allegations in the letter defamatory and untrue, they would bring in a verdict for the plaintiff; but if they held that the allegations in the Maori, letters were proved, then they should give a verdict for the defendants. The foreman of the jury made a representation on behalf of the others as to the exceptional nature of the trial in its .unusual duration, with th» view of getting some special remuneration.
