The Gipps 'Land Times (Victoria) relates the following peculiar snake story: —"A eon of Mr. Clarke, of Maffra, was out shooting and fired at a minah in a tree, a short distance from home. The bird fell, and the boy's surprise may be imagined when be saw a carpet snake that was lying along a lower limb, suddenly stretch out and catch the bird with the dexterity of a ciicket. The reptile, in his eagerness to obtain the feathered morsel, overbalanced and fell to the ground^ and immediately made for his hole at the foot of the tree; but a man, in the employ of Mr. Clarke, came up at the time, and with an axe he had in his hand cut his snakeship in two, severing the bird inside the snake's stomach at the same time. Thesnake was of the carpet'species, and measured a little over five feet in length."; - ■ " Berkeley, September, ; 1869.—Grentlemen,-^-! feel it a duty I owe to, you to .express my gratitude for the great benefit I have derived by taking..'* Ndrtonfs, Camomile Pills.
