DRAINAGE.
The City Council were engaged for a very considerable timß~last evening in discussing the extension of the water supply, and a report of the proceedings will be found in another column. The remarks of Crj Waters commend themselves to our notice as pointing out a cheap way of getting ouf of a difficulty that few supposed to exis' till within the last few days. Howeve desirable it may be to have an abundance c' water, we cannot help thinking that so lorg as we have sufficient to meet our requirements, there is a question which should ta'e precedence in the consideration of fee Councillors, namely, a thorough system of draiuage. If the Corporation has moneyto expend is public works —'Without imposng additional burdens on the ratepayers—we think heed should be taken of the draicige of the city. A thorough system may not be within our financial grasp at present, but our funds might be husbanded for that purpose, and in the meantime, the worst luisancbs might at once be abated. The siclness prevalent just now in the ill-drained cities of the South, should actas a warning fc> our civic authorities to cleanse as much aspossible our fair little city.
