GREAT FIRE IN MELBOURNE.

"Wellington, June 15. The Evening Post says it learns that the Hon. Major Atkinson will deliver the financial statement during the coming session. . The Licensing Bench yesterday refused three licenses to new hotels under subsection 5 of clause 21 of the " Licensing Act, 1874," because the houses were not in existence, though the plans were handed in, and the bouses guaranteed to be erected. In the list of successful candidates for the Provincial Scholarships there appear the names of two girls. The experiment is considered a success.
The Evening Post of last night gave currency to a rumor that three millions of the late four million loan were deposited in the Bank uf .New Zealand at two and a half per cent, but the report is not substantiated, Messrs. Featherston, Julian, and Sargeant are the Commissioners entrusted with the temporary deposit of the loan. A new edition of the Handbook will be shortly issued.
The Tribune saya the Government have their Constitutional Changes Bill ready. The same paper states that the Hon. Mr. Eeynolds will certainiy bring on again during the coming session his bill for the abolition of voting on miners' rights, and for the concession of the franchise to lodgers, but it cannot say whether he will go further in the matter of representation. It intimates that a re-distribution of Beats for the various districts, and a simple and more correct system of electoral registration are demanded on the eve of a general election. It also states that the Licensing Act of last session will be amended, but it does not hope to see a bill introduced dealing with education in the Colony, owing to the present position of parties.
Christchurch, June 16. _At a meeting of the Philadelphia Exhibition Committee this afternoon, it was resolved:—l. That the.General Government be requested to issue a memorandum showing the annual quantity of several exhibits of raw products, which they desire to have forwarded. ■z. That this Committee recommend that exhibits of the following products be in the following quantities: —Wool, not exceeding 601bs; grain, not exceeding half a bushel; coal, not exceeding 50 or 601bs; timber, uniform samples; flax, not exceeding SOlbs.
