GASWORKS—A NARROW ESCAPE.

To the Editor of the Colonist. Sir, —I hear that an explosion nearly occurred the other night in oonsequence of an inexperienced man being allowed to go into the purifying-room afc the Gasworks with a lighted candle. Can you inform me, and a large number of your other readers, whether the new Manager is so inexperienced as to allow such reckless conduct as that mentioned ? If he is not an experienced man a very serious accident may occur afc the Gasworks at any time. Yours etc., Mutilated Body.

[We do not know what previous experience the new Manager has had, but we should imagine that the City Council were fully satisfied on this point when they appointed Mr. Younger to the responsible post he now holds.—Editoe Colonist.']
