Ititerpi-ovineial. Wellington, Saturday. The Gt-reyraouth Harbor Works deputation waited upon the Government to-day, and received a written reply from the Minister for Public Works to the effect that the Government intended to carry out such works as might be necessary for the improvement of the port, and to facilitate the , shipment of coal. The additional vote of £10,000 taken during last session is to be spent during the next twelve months in carrying out the plans already decided upon. The Government will give their close attention to the subject, so that they may be in a position before next session to ascertain to what extent it will be advisable then to ask for further grants, Monday, To-day Major Atkinson was sworn in as a member of the Executive. advieeß from London, dated August 25th, itating that the Ocsan Mail had sailed for Neleon, and the Carnatio was loading for Picton. Poet Chalmees, Saturday. The ship Parsee has arrived from Glasgow. She brings 444 soulb, equal to 332£ statute adults, who are the first batch of Mr. James Adam's selection. The ship had a great deal of trouble od the voyage, about 200 cases of measles, besides diarrhoea and other diseases having occurred. The troubles commenced fourteen days after leaving. There were fourteen deaths, two of which were adults, and three birth?. The ship Tweed was towed into harbor last night. She brings 639 souls, equal to 521|- statute adults. There were thirteen deaths, and much sickness. The diseases were diarrhcea, measles, brain fever, convulsions, consumption, and whooping cough, the latter of which is now bad. She is a splendid ship, and was only Bevonty days from port to port. Alexandra, September 5. There is to be a great meeting^of natives at Waitoma this month to proceed to Eawhia to carry millstones for the flour mill to be erected at Te Kuiti. Manuhiri's counsels have prevailed, and no more grog is to be distilled. Auckland, Monday. Mr Alexander Saunders reports : —Sales: South British, 535; Bank of New Zealand, £17 12s 6d. Buyers: National Bank, 683; National Insurance, 1 28s. The Miltiades salvage claim is settled, the oonsignees paying £1314, and the ship £482. The native disturbance re Kiho te Kiore and Cambridge road assumes a serious aspect. An armed party opposes the work proceeding. The Government officers are threatened. A covering party of two hundred men would end the difficulty. The natives in the Bay of Plenty are all quiet.
