New Dresses and Appointments. Admission —Hall, 2s"; Gallery, Is. Doors open at 730 ; to commence at 8 o'clock. O THE BURGESSES OF THE CITY OF NELSON. GENTLEMEN, — Having been promised by several Ratepayers their support if I would consent to be nominated as a Councillor for the City of Nelson, I frankly avail myself of their kind offers. Having resided so many years amongst you, I think my principles are well known to most of the Ratepayers. Not knowing the particular business to be done in this early stage of the Corporation management, I cannot, haphazard, make any promises or pledges to carry out any particular scheme; but I am solely induced to accept this honorable office with a view of being serviceable, and, being largely interested in the City, to promote every measure to insure economy and efficiency in every department. But this I can freely promise—if my views and actions should unfortunately be at variance with the Ratepayers generally, I am ready to resign at any time, should a reasonable number of them in writing express that desire. I remain, Yours faithfully, 1422 JOSEPH H. LEVIEN. TO THE BURGESSES OF THE CITY OF NELSON. Gentlemen, —You are called upon to fill up Four Vacancies that occur by the retirement of members in the City Council. I, therefore, offer myself for re-election, and if returned hope to do my duty in the same impartial spirit as I have endeavored to do during several terms of office as a member of the Board of Works. If ydu do me the honor of re-electing me, I shall support such measures aB may be brought before the Council for the sanitary improvement of the City. The drainage commenced should be carried on, for I hold this to be the most essential work that can be carried out to ensure the health of the City. The question of handing over to the Council the Gas and Waterworks by the Government has received my support, and I have no doubt that it will be soon accomplished. I shall advocate the reduction of the Gaa rate if it is found practicable. Now that Nelson is constituted a Municipality, I think that the Mayor should be eleoted by the Burgesses of the City, instead of by the Council, as at present. I shall feel it my duty to support a measure having this for its object. I understand that the Mayor of Blenheim is elected in this way, and that the method works well. I shall also advocate the division of the City into Wards, as this I hold is tho only sure way of getting the City fairly represented in the Council. Gentlemen, if you place me in the honorable position to which I aspire, I will do my best to merit the confidence reposed in me. I am, Gentlemen, Yours, faithfully, 1406 J. B. HOOPER. NELSON CITY COUNCIL. CITIZEN'S ROLL. "JVTOTICE is hereby given, that the JLI CITIZEN'S ROLL for the CITY OF NELSON, for the Yeab Ending June 20th, 1875, is NOW READY. Copies of Buch Roll can be obtained from the Mayor, by any person requiring them on the payment of a reasonable price for the same. (" The Municipal Corporations Act, 1867." See Clause 61.) Oouucil Office, September Ist, 1874. 1417 DISSOLUTION OF PARTNERSHIP. iVTOTICE is hereby given, that the 1.1 CO-PARTNERSHIP lately existing between u6 the undersigned, as SOLICITORS, under the style or firm of "ADAMS & PITT," has been DISSOLVED by mutual consent.
