THE WAIMEA-STREET SEWER.

To the Editor of the Colonist. Sir, —In this evening's Mail it is stated that " the proposed oul-fall in this sewer attains its highest point at the Bridge-street man-hole.1' This I believe to be correct. Why this highest point exists is this. In the alteration of the water-pipe it was not put down low enough for the invert brick to be level with the top of the flange of the pipe, and this necessitated an alteration of the levels some distance before it and the same distance after it. The flange ofthepipo even nowistwo inches above the invert brick internally. This was the cause of the first digression from the original levels. Tho other alteration (at Patterson's corner) was in strict compliance with my orders, which were given so that an extra four inches and a half of space could be gained in the crown of the culvert just where the tramway crosses, and where I had always foreseen a difficulty.—l am, &c t Thomas Youngeb.
