'JLne speaKer in me cnair. &v me uwuiucin present. EXPLANATION. Mr. Reid rose to make an explanation that affeoted the Goldfields members. He wished to deny the •tatement made in Wednesday's Examiner respecting the meeting of the Goldfields members with the Inland Communication Committee on Saturday evening last. There was no resolution proposed by Mr. T Maokaj, and seconded by Mr. Acton AdaMs, &9 stated by the Examiner, neither was a resolution adopted. The Goldfields members merely expressed themßelTes satisfied with the intentions of the Inland Communication Committee. This explanation was necessary, as the mis-statement alluded to might cause the Goldfields members, in their future action in the matter, to be charged with acting in bad faith. Mr. O'Conob corroborated Mr Reid's statement. ■WEST OOAST BAILTVAY. The Pbovinoial Secbetaby postponed the railway resolutions for a week, until the deputation now in Canterbury returned. TELEGRAPH TO THE LYELL. Mr. Shephakd moved, " That his Honor the Superintendent be requested to make arrangements with the General Government for an extension of the line of telegraph .from Nelson to the Lyell." Mr. Reid seconded the motion. The Provincial Seobetaby moved as an amendment: —" That it is desirable that that the line of telegraph be extended from the Lyell direct to Nelson." " Seconded by Mr. Tabbant. Amendment adopted. STANLEY BBOOK MBMOEIAti. Mr. 0. Selling moved, "That the memorial of settlers in Stanley Brook be referred to the Petition Committee for consideration." Seconded by Mr. Bukn. Agreed to. WATEB SUPPLY. Mr. Donnh asked the Provincial Secretary what steps have been taken, if any, by his Honor the Superintendent to give effect to certain resolutions of the Council with regard to the question of water supply for the Charleston and Collingvrood golifields. The Provincial Secbetaey stated that tuo resolutions in question had been forwarded to the G-eneral Government, with a recommendation for the work to be done. GEEY VALLEY "WATEE STTPPY. Mr. Rbid, without notice, asked what was being done with regard to the Grey Valley water supply. The reply was that the General Government had undertaken the work, and the Provincial authorities had nothing whatever to do with it. The Council then adjourned.
