Manuka, once the champion of the New Zealand turf, and latterly one of the sires located at the Maribyrnong stud, will in all probability change his quarters before the commencement of next season, Mr. Petty having had several offers from persons anxious to secure the borse, among them one from the land of the horse's birth, New Zealand. Manuka is a splendidly bred horse, as a reference to his pedigree will show, his sire being The Peer (a son of Melbourne and Cinizelli, the dam of the Marquis, Marchioness, &o.) out of Waimea, by Sir Hercules (the sira. of The Barb, Yattendon, &o.) With The Marquis, Fireworks, and Angler, Mr. Petty finds his establishment amply represented, and for this reason alono b,a, made up liis mind to part with M.&n\xk».-^Aitstralas.ian, May 3. Case of CrUM PoKO^KCt.—The Qippsland (Victoria) Times relates, that a. peculiar case of gum poisoning occurred at Stratford, causing the death cf Eobert Berry, a. Bay between seven and eight years cf age. From the evidence given at the inquest it , appoara that one afternoon the boy's aunt, with whom ]he resided, sent him to an adjoining paddock to drive home some cows. After an absence of an hour, he was searched for, and found complaining of sickness from eatiDg gum. He complained a gr,eat deal of his head, and died about nine o'clock the same eve ring. The doctor attributed the cause of death to inflammat p : i of the stomach and congestion of the brain, and lungi> oam«d by eating iQuae poisonous gum. ; ,
