A Remedy fob Dysentey.—The Sydney Morning Herald, of a recent date, publishes* the following from a correspondent:—A good deal of valuable information has irotn time to time appeared in your columns respecting the medicinal properties of the blue gum tree; but as no mention, that lam aware of, has been made concerning its efficacy in the treatment of diarrhoea and dysentery, I beg leave, for the sake of suffering humanity, to mention my experience as to its remarkable power in promptly and effectually curing these painful maladies, even in their most aggravated form. For many years past it has proved an unfailing remedy to myself and family, as well as scores of others. I use it in the form of a decoction ; half a dozen fresh leaves are allowed to simmer in a pint of water till the quantity be reduced one-hali It is then carefully strained through a fine cloth and slightly sweetened to render it more palatable. The dose for an adult is half a wine-glass three or four times a day, for a child a teaspoonful every three hours. Suoh a remedy as this may be of considerable service in the bush, or where medical skill is unattainable. It is sad to hear of so many persons enduring protracted suffering, and frequently succumbing to these distressing complaints, when a remedy so sure, simple, and efficacious, can be so easily obtained. —Edwabd HollaiS'd. DancJeb ov Eating Peach Kebnbls. Dr. Samuels, of Wanganui, has written to the Australian Medical Journal giving an account of a boy being poisoned, and nearly losing his life, through eating peach kernels. The dootor states:—"The child vomited an ounce or more of masticated peach kernels. lat once administered an emetic, followed shortly by a full dose ot castor oil, which soon acted on the bowels. I ordered him to bs kept warm. After being placed iv bed, he slept for about two hours, after which he awoke and seemed recovered. This wa9 obviously a cafe of poisoning by hydrooyanic acid (prussio acid) contained in the peach kernel* of which the child had eaten a large quantity. My chief reason for reporting this is that I notice but one case mentioned in Taylor's ' Manual of Poisons' of poisoning by peach kernels."
