Seobetabt moved "That it is expedient in order to relieve the publio from the payment of tolls, that the towing traok between Westport and the Inangahua should be pnrohawd from the company by whom it was constructed, upon the terms provided in the protection which,was granted to the company, namely, by payment of th j aotual cost of the works with ten per cent, added; the payment to be made in land at the prices assessed by the Waste Lands Board." Mr. Maomahon proposed a Select Committee to consider the question, which was agreed to, the Committee bebg selected by ballot. DBAY EOADa. The Pbovikoial Seobetabt moved, [' That, in the opinion of this Council, it is expedient that the whole of the funds available under the 43rd section of the Immigration and Public Works Aot, 1872, for ! expenditure within the South-west G-oldfields, during the year ending June 30,1874, should be devoted to the formation of dray-roads between the Lyell and the Matakitaki, and between the Inangahua and the Lyell." Secretary moved, " That, in the opinion of this Council, the late discoveries of coal, of high quality and in large quantities, at the Ngakawaho and at the Waimangaroa, render the construction of a railway suitabls for coal traffic from the Ngakawaho to Westporfc a matter of urgent importance ; and the Council trusts that the Colonial Government will proceed with the work without delay, under the authority of the Railways Act, 1871, from the funds therein appropriated for the Mount Eochfort Coal Railway." Put and passed. FREE LICBNSR. ' Mr. Guinness moved, " That his Honor the Superintendent be respectfully requested to secure a free license to M'Ghee, of Hatter's Terrace, Nelson Creek, as remuneration to him for having erected and for keeping in repair a free bridge over Nelson Creek, or such other remuneration as may be deemed just under the circumstances." Seconded by Mr. Pinkebton. Withdrawn. BETBENCHMENNT. Mr. G-IBE3 moved, " That a Select Committee be appointed to take into consideration the question of a general reduction in the expenditure of the Provincial Counoil, including the honorarium. of members." Seconded by Mr. Wastwet. Put and negatived. AKAUIU HOSPITAL. Mr. GuiNirß3S moved, " That hii Honor the Superintendent be respectfully requested to issue instructions for the repairs of the Ahaura Hospital as soon as possible." Seconded by Mr. Pinkkbtox, and carried. , MOUNT BOOHFOBT COAUIEIJ). Mr. O'Conob moved, " That his Honor the Superintendent be respectfully requested to lay upon the table of this Council copies of all doouments relative to the Mount Rochfort Coalfields, which may be. in possession of the Provincial Government or the Waste Land Board." Seconded by Mr. Beid, and carried. ANTI-SEPABATION PETITIOH". Mr. Itbss moved, " That his Honor the Superintendent be respectfully requested to furnish a detailed statement of the item anti-separation petition, £183 17s Bd, under miscellaneous vote £2600." Seconded by Mr. Donke, and carried on a division.

One from Mr. O'Conob asked the House, without notice, to grant a Select Committee to consider and report upon all leases and licenses applied for or granted for any part of the Mount Rochfort Coalfield, such Com* mittee to consist of Messrs. Gibbs, Burn, Iveu, Pinkerton, A. Adams, Reid, and the mover.
