DINNER TO MR. VOGEL.

The following telegraphio correspondence has taken place between the Hon. Julius Vogel, O.M.Q-, and Joseph Shephard, Esq., M.H.R., Chairman of the Dinner Committee:— . Mr. Vogel to Mr. Shephabd. " Auckland, May 2. "Just telegraphed to Mr. Curtis, impossible for me to visit Nelson, my health will not permit, am confined to my room. It is 'greatest possible disappointment to me, especially after the great kindness shown in postponing ceremonyDo all you can to make known how much regret I feel." Mr. Shrphabd to Mr. Vogil, Aaokland. " Nelson, May 3. "Nelson people extremely regret your illness, and, hope when recovered yon will honor them by accept ing public dinner. Pray fix your own time. I will be sufficient if we hare four days clear notice." Mr. Vogsli to Mr. Shbphabd. • "Auckland, May 3. "Much gratified with your telegram. As soon as I am well enough I hope to come to Nelson from Wellington to attend a public dinner. I could not possibly attend a dinner on my way down, for I am not in a fit state to do so, and I am nsturally anxious to get to Wellington to be nursed into convalescence. But I hope to be able, before the session, to arrange to visit Nelson, if the people are still of the mind you describe." Mr. Shiphabd to Mr. Vogel, Wellington. " Nelson, May 5.
