The barque Joy.se Phillips, for Nelson, left the London docks on the 15th November, proceeding on her voyage, but through contrary winds only succeeded in getting as far as off the Isle of Wight, when she encountered most severe weather, aud was obliged to run back to the Downs, where a perfect fleet of outward bound ships was anchored awaiting a ohange of wind. It was expected ehe would leave about the end of November. The fine little barque Echo was loading for here when the Joyse Phillips left, to leave about the 16th December.

Lee Smith, of London, has arrived at Hull, after an absence of a little over four months, from a oruise in the Arotio Seas. It is said that some islands seen by Mr. Smith during his cruise were not marked on any chart, and it is thought that he has had the honor of determining the west point of Spitzbergen, and of discovering islands in nearly the same latitude* The Wellington Anniversary Eegatta Committee met at the Pier Hotel on January 28th to distribute the prizes. The total amount paid away was I £141145. 3d. Of this £87 10». was paid in the form of prize money, leaving a balance of £53 14s. 3d to cover incidental expenses. The balance of £50 which had been lying to their credit in the bank from last year still remains untouched, and will be further augmented by a small balance left ia hand after all claims were met.— lndependent.
