It is rumored that the Superintendent has applied for the temporary use of fourteen of the Armed Constabulary. By request of a deputation, the Mayor hag convened a publio meeting for to-night to consider what sieps should be taken towards the protection of the City during thn strike o( the police. The Council, yosterday, voted £1500 as a bonus for tlie establishment of a paper mill, £300 for a bottle factory, and £1030 for tho manufacture of sacks and woolpacks in this Province. It also empowered the Government to spend £12,000 on immigration. AUCKLAND. Auckland, May 30. The Governor, accompanied by Major Campbell and Mr. Mitchell, leaves for the Wuikaio to-morrow. He wilt travel by short stages, visiting nil townships and Native kaiang'is, and will be in constant communication with Mr. M'Lean, who is now at Alexandra making arrangements with the Kingites for the expected meeting with the Governor. The Hon. Colonel Peacock died yesterday at Ho wick. Mr. Sinclair, of the Waikato Lands Office, has proceeded to Waikato to ascertain what blocks would be available for settlement of Kingites in the event of an amicable arrangement at forthcoming meeting with Mr. M'Lean.
