FATE OF THE GLADSTONE COUNTY BILL.

"When Mr. Stafford two years ago predicted that the table of the House of Eepresentatives would groan with petitions for new counties, and that the House would willingly grant them, he did not anticipate that in 1569, when under the cold shade of Opposition, he should find a division of the House so completely overturning his predictions, as is done by the following division on the motion for the second reading of the Gladstone County Bill :—
For the bill, 18—Messrs. Armstrong, Ball, Barff, Birch, Bunny, Carleton, Clark, Fitzherbert, Gallagher, Graham, Hall (teller), Jollie, Main, Munro, Richmond, Stafford (teller), Swan, and Wood. Against, 31—Messrs. Baigent, Bell, Brandon, Cargill, Collins, Curtis, Dignan, Edwards, Eyes, Farnall, Hankinson, Heaphy, Howorfch, Kelly, Macandrew, Macfarlane, M'Lean, O'Neill, Orruond, JParJcer, Peacock, Reynolds, Rolleston (teller), Stevens (teller), Studholme, Tancred, Taylor, Vogel, Wells, Williamson, and Wilson. Pairs—For, Mr. Brarlsbaw ; against, Mr. Fox.
