THE REBEL PATARA.
In the House of Representatives, Mr. Cracroft Wilson, C.8., asked whether Patara, the companion of ftereopa in his expedition to the East Coast in 1866, has been taken into the confidence of Mr. Parris, Civil Commissioner; whether he has been intrusted with the charge of a native reserve upon which a government redoubt is now standing; and whether he is receiving any salary from the funds of the Colony ? Patara was more or less accessory to the murder of Volkner, and seizure of hiß property. The, hon. the Premier replied he was not able to give a definite answer to the whole of the questions, but he was sorry to say that Patara, if not the familiar associate,' was at least the official companion of Mr. Commissioner Parris. How far the other statements made by the hon. member were correct he was not aware; but the hon. memb9r might rest assured that the Government would lose no time in taking such action as might be considered expedient in reference to this outrageous case.
