A reef has been discovered in a new district on the goldfield—the OtunuL Mr. D. Tookey, the prospector, has applied for a lease of fifteen acres. The Long Drive specimens which were obtained from the lower workings of the claim recently certainly excel any which have been previously obtained even from this celebrated mine. The gold is of a much coarser description than it was on the upper levels, and the atone, what little is to he seen of it, is dark blue j but we were shown a number of what the manager called specimens yesterday, which weighed almost as heavy as solid gold. There are now about 250 pounds of specimens again ready for the mill, and when the crushing comes off we certainly expect it to be richer than any of the previous ones. ! 183 ozs. of gold, got afc Ohinemuri, was recently deposited at one of the Shortland banks.
