The rendezvous is the head-quarters of cash corp;, anl the time of assembling is to be fixed by tho commanding officer of the district.

Colonel Wthtiiore and the People of H.uvkk's Bay.—The Hawlces Bail Herald of December 1-f, snys: —"To send Colonel Whitmore here at the present time, with no matter how many men at his bade, would be most disastrous. 110. possesses neither tlio confidence nor good will of any part of tho community, European or native, mid assuredly none would ho found to work cordially under his command. We sincerely hope that his reported coming is a mistake. 110 lms already been largely instrumental in drawing down ruin on this Province, and it only wants his presence here as a commander to preoipitato a danger which at prps«nt only looms in the dist'inop."

TnE Wanganui Chronicle says : —" We learn that, 300 of the troops stationed here leave by the s.s. Ladybird for Hawko's Bay. Wo not only do not; objecb to assistance being senb to the sorely-hoset; settlers of that Province—we think it should have gone before How ; —but we think it right to shite that a draft of 3 0 men men from Wanganui is out of n I proportion, if' not to the necessities of iho ca^p, at least to the interests at stake in the respective districts. The whole force here at present, includingthe cavalry volunteers, cannot amount to mrpti'in 600 men all told, avid to take away the half of the?!? for "Poverty Bay, where there are very few settlei'3 and no property —for it is already destroicd—leaving Wanganui, with a large population and eonsidon:'il<> wealth, which has not yet fallen into the hands of th<> rebels, with utterly inadequate means of defence, seems a singular mode of procedure."

Thr livening Herald says one hundred of JM\> Kingi's men, under the command of Ilyninn an 1 Aporaniko, started yesterday evening on an c.\'t>, ' tion against the enemy. , They have expressed their intention to cut off stragglers and do as much mischief as they can in their own way. This is a move in the right direction, and we wish them every success.

The Government will shortly be in a position, lo snpply arms to the M'iitia. The Eangatira yesterday brought 350 stand from Auckland, besides^OO aft Wanganui. The Pheebe brought 1000 stnnd fon Wellington lastnight. It is rumored that the two 12-pounder Armstrong guns are to be sent to Wanganui.—Wellington. JSveniny Po9§ of Deo. 4.
