VOLUNTEERS ON ACTIVE SERVICE.

The Governor, by a proclamation in tho Gazelle, of Ist December, calls out for aoiual serving all tho Volunteer Corps in the Provinces of Welling Lo:i, Napier, and Taranaki. These comprise the following corps:— Tahanaki, 2 Companies.—Mounted, and Light Infantry. Patea, 2 Companies.—Patea and Wairoa Rides. Wanganui, 3 Companies. —Wanganui Cavalry, Kai-iwi Yeomanry Cavalry, and Wanjauui Veterans. Raxgitikei, 3 Companies.—Union Company, Royal Company, and Turnlcina Rifles. Manaavatf, 1 Company.—Manawatu Rifles. Wellington, 1 Companies. —Hutt, Porinri, Tait.ii, and No. 1 Comp.my Rifle 3 ; Artillery, VeteiMUo, and Hutt Cavalry. Wathatupa, G Companies. —Feathsr.'ton, Cri-oy-town, Masterton, and Cartertoa Rifloj; Gri-oy-town, and Wairarapa Cavalry. Castlepoint, 1 Company. —Cavalry. Napier, 2 Companies. —Napier Rifles, ami Yeomanry Cavalry. Watroa, 1 Coinpmy. —Rule?. Poverty Bay, 1 Company.—Mounter! Rifle?.. OroTiicr, 2 Companies. —Bay of Plenty Cavalry, and Opotiki Rangers. The rendezvous is the head-quarters of cash corp;, anl the time of assembling is to be fixed by tho commanding officer of the district.

Colonel Wthtiiore and the People of H.uvkk's Bay.—The Hawlces Bail Herald of December 1-f, snys: —"To send Colonel Whitmore here at the present time, with no matter how many men at his bade, would be most disastrous. 110. possesses neither tlio confidence nor good will of any part of tho community, European or native, mid assuredly none would ho found to work cordially under his command. TnE Wanganui Chronicle says : —" We learn that, 300 of the troops stationed here leave by the s.s. Ladybird for Hawko's Bay. Thr livening Herald says one hundred of JM\> Kingi's men, under the command of Ilyninn an 1 Aporaniko, started yesterday evening on an c.\'t>, ' tion against the enemy. , They have expressed their intention to cut off stragglers and do as much mischief as they can in their own way. This is a move in the right direction, and we wish them every success.

The Government will shortly be in a position, lo snpply arms to the M'iitia. The Eangatira yesterday brought 350 stand from Auckland, besides^OO aft Wanganui.
